The Most Beautiful
It seemed that everywhere we went the tour guides could only say one phrase, and they repeated the phrase endlessly. In reference to just about anything & everything they would say...it is the most beautiful! They were correct. It was the most beautiful everywhere we looked. Well I’ll take some of that back as it was not the most beautiful when we accidentally wandered into a slum on Corfu. The kids were dirty & cute but not the most beautiful. Certainly the tourist sights where our eyes were directed were...the most beautiful! As the ship sailed away we past this little Greek island and I wondered just what on that island was the most beautiful?
Surf is Up
I think one is required to visit a LOT of churches, basilicas, grottos, etc. when one visits even the remotest places in Europe. We had just finished visiting a Greek Orthodox Church up a winding road at the peak of a hill that was at the conclusion of a tourist bus ride across the island of Corfu. On the way back to town we also made a required stop for refreshments and tourist trinkets. The tourist trap looked out over this estuary. The rowboats would have been fine by themselves, but I thought the surf board just added a gentle irony to the scene. Nothing inside beat anything visually we saw outside. It was truly the ‘most beautiful!’
We walked the wrong way when we got off the ship. We wanted to go to the tourist section of town. We had an interesting walk through some extremely poor sections of Corfu., and then some that looked almost suburban. We did finally make our way into town ready to head back to the ship as it was very hot and we had walked a long way. We asked for directions.
